Roti is very popular in Northern, Western and Central India. It is a traditional Indian Bread and is normally eaten with curries or cooked vegetables in gravy.There are number of differenct Roti Recipes - this is just one particular roti recipe that is used in my house.

Ingredients for Roti:

#  500 gm wholemeal flour
#  Optional - pinch of salt
#  2 cups warm water
#  3 tbsp vegetable oil
#  Skillet or Tava for cooking Roti
#  Rolling Pin

Methods/steps
  • Mix flour and salt (optional) together in a bowl.
  • Add vegetable oil.
  • Then add water, little by little and form in to a semi soft dough.
  • Keep aside for 10 minutes for leavening and cover the dough with dish or a moist cloth.
  • Then preheat the Skillet or Tav.
  • Make small balls from the dough. These should be slightly smaller then egg in size.
  • Flatten and roll on dry flour with a rolling pin.
  • It should be 4-5 mm thick and 6-8 inch in diameter and round in shape.
  • Cook the Roti in a Skillet or a Tava or a Griddle until a little brown on both sides.(Keep turning). Their should besome dark brown spots when finished.
